Stove & Range Repair in Charlotte, NC

Usually one burner, not the whole range

Cooktop faults are specific in a useful way: it is almost always one burner, or one surface element, or one clicking igniter that will not stop. That narrows things immediately, because a single dead burner on an otherwise working cooktop rules out the supply and the main control and points at that burner's own switch, igniter, element or connection. The exception worth knowing is the gas range where every surface igniter clicks continuously. That is usually one spill-soaked switch or a cracked igniter shorting and dragging the whole spark module with it.

How the diagnosis differs by technology

How we work depends on the technology. On gas: burner cap and port alignment first, because a misplaced cap after a clean is a genuinely common "it will not light," then igniter electrode condition and gap, the spark module and the ignition switches. On electric coil and radiant glass: element resistance and infinite-switch operation, with a hard look at the terminal block and receptacle where heat cycling burns connections and leaves a scorched, high-resistance joint. On induction: the coil, the power board, the cooling fan and the pan-detection circuit, plus the cookware itself, since a non-ferrous pan produces a fault code that is not a fault. Glass-top damage (a crack or an impact chip) gets identified honestly, because it changes the answer.

Repair or replace

Individual burner and element repairs are almost always worth doing, whatever the age of the range. Switches, igniters, spark modules, elements, terminal blocks and valves are all routine. Two things shift the balance: a cracked glass cooktop, where the glass is a significant part in itself, and induction power-board failures on some premium models. On a slide-in or drop-in range fitted to an existing countertop cut-out, repair keeps looking better than replacement for the same reason built-ins do: the appliance was sized to the hole. As always you get the flat-rate number before any work starts.

Burner and cooktop faults we see week to week

Not generic troubleshooting. These are the faults that repeat on Charlotte service calls, and what each symptom usually turns out to be.

One gas burner will not light, the others are fine

Start at the cap: a burner cap put back slightly off after cleaning blocks the ports and stops ignition, and it costs nothing to correct. Then the igniter electrode (cracked ceramic or a carbon-fouled tip) the port passages themselves, and that burner's ignition switch.

Every igniter clicks continuously and will not stop

Moisture or a boil-over has got into one ignition switch, or one igniter has a cracked insulator, and the shorted circuit drives the whole spark module. Drying it out sometimes clears it; when it does not, it is one switch or one igniter, not the cooktop.

Electric element dead, or stuck on full heat

An open element, or an infinite switch that has failed. Stuck-on-full is specifically the switch and should not be ignored. It is a burn and fire risk, and it means the burner cannot be turned down, only off at the breaker.

Burner works intermittently and the connection looks scorched

Heat cycling degrades the terminal block or the plug-in receptacle, leaving a high-resistance joint that arcs, overheats and eventually burns. Replacing only the element leaves the real fault in place, so both get checked together.

Induction cooktop shows a fault code or drops power

Pan detection with non-ferrous cookware, an overheating power board with a failed cooling fan, or a coil fault. The cookware check is free and rules out a surprising share of calls before any part is discussed.

Radiant glass top cracked or chipped

We identify this honestly rather than working around it. The glass is a real part with a real price, and on some models that number changes the repair-or-replace conversation. You should hear that before work starts, not after.

21 years of appliance repair

Experience you can hear in the first five minutes

Appliance EMT has repaired appliances since 2005, now across 12 states and here in Charlotte. That is thousands of kitchens and laundry rooms, and the pattern recognition that comes with them. A technician who has seen the same evaporator fan ice up a hundred times does not need to guess at the hundred and first.

It is the difference between replacing parts until something works and knowing which part failed before the panel is off. One costs you a morning. The other costs you several, and the price of every part that was not the problem.

Stove & Range Repair FAQs: Charlotte, NC

Why does my gas cooktop keep clicking even when it is off?

One ignition switch has taken on moisture from a spill, or one igniter has a cracked insulator, and the short drives the entire spark module so every burner clicks. Drying it thoroughly sometimes clears it. When it does not, the repair is one switch or one igniter, not the whole cooktop.

One burner stopped working. Do I need a new range?

Very unlikely. A single dead burner on an otherwise working cooktop rules out the supply and the main control, which leaves that burner's own switch, igniter, element or connection. Those are all routine repairs at any age of range.

Do you repair induction cooktops?

Yes. We check pan detection, the coil, the power board and the cooling fan. It is worth trying a known ferrous pan first: non-magnetic cookware produces a fault code that looks like a hardware failure and is not one.

My electric burner is stuck on high and will not turn down. Is that dangerous?

Yes, treat it as urgent. A failed infinite switch can leave a burner at full power with no way to reduce it. Turn the range off at the breaker and call rather than working around it.

What happens if I decide not to go ahead with the repair?

You pay the trip charge and nothing else: $117 residential, $197 commercial. It is waived when you proceed with the repair, and you see the flat-rate price before any work begins.
